FEARS Woodland Clearance Will Have 'Devastating Impact' On Appearance Of Village

ANOTHER large area of woodland at Inverkip is to be cleared.
The Forestry Commission has issued Ardgowan Estate with a Statutory Plant Health Notice relating to an infection of phytophthora ramorum at Idzholm Wood.
It involves clearing around 12 hectares of larch on the hill above Bankfoot, pictured, and down the side of the Kip to Bridgend.
Information about the clearance will be given at a public meeting being held by Inverkip and Wemyss Bay Community Council on Thursday 23 August at 7pm in Inverkip Church
A spokesman for the community council said:"This is going to have a devastating impact on the appearance of Inverkip and it would be helpful for as many residents to know about why it is necessary."
Hugh Clayden from the Forestry Commission and Geoff Brown, on behalf of Ardgowan Estate, will address the meeting and explain what impact the work will have.
They will also inform the meeting how and when the work will start and what plans there are for re-planting.
Nearby Berfern Plantation is also being stripped of trees after storm damage. More Information
