A WEEK Of Performances To Bid Farewell To Arts Guild
A WEEK of performances and events to saying goodbye to Greenock Arts Guild has been put together.
The Festival of the Guild will run from Tuesday 26 June to Sunday 1 July with community arts groups who have been using the Guild for the last 65 years joining in performing songs, dances and theatrical pieces from the era of the Guild's opening -- 1940s/50s, post-war Britain.
There will be lots of other activities going on around the Campbell Street building with this theme in mind including a vintage fair, afternoon teas, promenade theatre pieces, and ice cream, cake and candy stalls.
The Film Club which ran in the Guild for decades will be recreated and will be showing Treasure Island on Saturday morning for families, and then Gentlemen Prefer Blondes on the Sunday evening for the adults. The Sunday night film club will be the finale event and will also feature old film footage of the Arts Guild Theatre’s grand opening in 1949.
All main stage festival event tickets will be priced £5 and there will be lots of free activities as well to encourage the whole community to go along and join in on the festivities. A festival pass for £30 will allow access to seven main house events.
The Arts Guild is being replaced by a new venue -- the Beacon Arts Centre -- on Greenock's Waterfront.
