LOCAL divers helped make sure Gourock outdoor pool was shipshape for its re-opening.

Members of Greenock Sub Aqua Club and staff from Castle Dive Store in Port Glasgow volunteered for an underwater "clean up" session as 20 months of building work at the refurbished facility was nearing completion.

Ian Stirling of the club said: “A lot of dust debris from the building works had sunk and needed filtered out. It took three to four sessions and a lot of work to move the worst of the debris, so that the pool staff could drop in a wee 'robot' cleaner that could handle the last fine sand residues.

The sub aqua club are offering dive training at the pool on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30 and anyone interested can have a go at a 'try-a-dive' session for just £6 for the best part of an hour.

Those who helped clean up the pool were Billy Graham, Wills Graham, Eddie Whitelaw, Tony Holt, Ian Stirling, Fraser Sweeney, Paul King, and "Big" Gordon.
