Who came up with the great idea to close Greenock Sports Centre for the entire school holidays? The centre actually closed for six weeks (no doubt it will run over) on the very day the schools stopped for the summer holidays.

Whilst I agree that the centre is in need of repair and upgrading, surely a more convenient time could have been arranged. In previous years the centre has been used by many play schemes during the school holidays.

To make it worse, with the London Olympics focusing the world’s attention on British sport and many young children seeing some of these sports for the first time, surely the centre should have remained open and even offered taster sessions of 'Olympic' sports for school-aged children!

We are always told kids are not exercising and not playing enough sports -- we have missed out on a fantastic opportunity to get kids involved in sport and maybe even discover a future Olympian!
