READER Talkback -- Don't Wait For An Important Visit Before Cleaning Up (Four Comments)
Has anybody noticed the busybee activity going on in Cathcart Street and the surrounding area to get ready for the Queen’s visit? I took a walk down there with my son on Tuesday and was amazed to see areas that have been overgrown with weeds and filled with rubbish getting cut back and cleaned out properly for what feels like the first time in ages. Also the road workers were out shoring up the damaged paving and filling in holes. Now, I am happy that the Queen is coming here. I feel it'll give our wee town a nice little boost but maybe the council should be doing these things year round instead of waiting for an important visit. I figure if the Queen pops in once a year it could be kept up, in fact reading another person’s issues with the roads in Larkfield, I'd advise her to take a jaunt up there; then everyone will be tripping over each other to sort it.

-- Totally agree with Ms. T. I was walking along the road towards Clyde Square and I've never seen so many guys in high viz vests actually doing something! The place is spotless and very presentable, well until 5 July when they won't care because the Queen will have been and gone.
They did the same thing in Port Glasgow along the route for the Olympic torch. For about two weeks they were out painting the lamp-posts, fixing the wire fences on the Clune Brae and fixing the pot holes. The important thing to notice is that they filled the pot holes in PROPERLY, not the usual quick fix. We need the Queen or some dignitaries to visit the entire area over the next year so we can get the town shipshape.

I think it's great we have the Queen coming here; she has been here before I know, but it's great for Greenock business and economy, and great for the area to get a wee clean-up too!

Here’s hoping that the royal motorcade is sent along West Blackhall Street in error. That will soon fix this shambolic chaos that locals have to put up with day in and day out.
