Guide Notes

2nd Larkfield Rainbows Party And Promise Ceremony -- The 2nd Larkfield Rainbows finished off their session with a promise ceremony and birthday party to celebrate 25 years of UK Rainbows. The Rainbow unit has only recently started and there was lots for them to do during the party. Their first activity was to make crowns to wear during the party. Then there was lots of laughter with fun games, and the Rainbows loved jumping and bouncing on the castle. Finally it was time for the specially made birthday cake – which was described as yummy! All the girls made their promise for the first time as Rainbows, and went home very happy with party bags and their special 25th Birthday Badges. The girls can’t wait for next session to start to continue with their fun and games.

23rd Greenock Brownies Zoo Trip -- The 23rd Greenock Brownies finished off their session with a trip to Edinburgh Zoo. The Brownies enjoyed walking round the zoo and looking at all the different animals. But, the highlight of the trip for everyone was actually seeing the famous giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang. They were a big hit with the Brownies. The Brownies finished their trip with a visit to the shop and enjoyed a stop at McDonald’s for tea on the way home. The Brownies and Leaders thank the leaders from other units who help out on trips -- a lot of the trip would not be possible without their help.

1st Wemyss Bay Guides Promise Ceremonies -- The 1st Wemyss Bay Guides finished the summer term with three different promise ceremonies where eight girls made their promise as Guides for the first time. The first ceremony was for Lauren and took place at the end of an Olympic-themed Guide camp. The camp started with an opening ceremony and the Guides tried new sports including mountain biking, archery and crate-climbing. Everyone competed in a mini Olympics and had great fun in all the races. The second promise ceremony took place during a pyjama bouncy castle party. The Guides played party games including musical bumps and musical statues on the bouncy castle. The Guides found musical statues particularly difficult! New Guides Jaye, Hollie and Kiera all made their promises at the end of the night.

On their final night, the Guides held an indoor sausage sizzle (moved from the beach because of bad weather). The Guides cooked their own burgers and made smores over tea lights. At the end of the evening, new Guides Sophie, Katie, Eve and Hayley all made their promises in a horse-shoe lit by candles.

2nd Gourock Guides M&D’s Youth Funday -- The 2nd Gourock Guides and Leaders enjoyed an exciting day at M&D’s at Strathclyde Park recently. This was part of a special access day open to all uniformed organisations. The Guides had great fun at the park and enjoyed white-knuckle rides and some not quite so scary rides in the beautiful sunshine.

South Newton 50/50 Draw Winner For July -- The winner of the July draw is Sheila Tait, Division Commissioner for Greenock. The draw was done by Sandra Jolly last Sunday.

Tartan Gig Photo Competition -- Guides and leaders who attended the Tartan Gig are reminded that the closing date for applications for the photo competition is 9 July. The two best photos will win a Tartan Gig t-shirt signed by all the acts taking part in the show.  The winning photos will be decided by 13 July 2012.
