Diamond Jubilee Events
5th Gourock Guides held their own Diamond Jubilee street party. The hall they meet in was decorated with Union Jack bunting and flags and homemade paper chains. The Guides made their own crowns with lots of jewels on them to wear while they had their party food.

The girls had lots of fun with a variety of games and challenges including pin the diamond on the Queen’s Crown (thanks to Scott for his drawing of the Queen and her crown), Changing the Guard (like Port and Starboard game adapted slightly), decorating their own cup cake, Commonwealth Kim’s game and the highlight of the evening was the 5th Gourock Guides Derby. The Guides loved being horses and raced round the course to the cheers of their patrols. The Guides and leaders had lots of fun at their street party and everyone was presented with the Diamond Jubilee Badge at the end of the evening.

To round off their session, the 39th Greenock Guides joined with the Brownies and Rainbows for a Diamond Jubilee Party. Everyone came dressed in red, white and blue. The girls worked on a variety of activities during the night before having their street party with lots of food and a huge Union Jack cake. They all made crowns with gem stones, decorated fairy cakes with red, white and blue icing, played Beetle drive and then played games that the Queen might have played when she was younger. Everyone had lots of fun. At the end, two of the leaders, Lesley and Sara, made their promises as leaders. It was a very emotional night as they all had to say goodbye to Betty. Betty has helped with the Brownies, Rainbows and Guides for 24 years and she will be sadly missed by all the girls and leaders. Thank you very much Betty for all your help and support over the years.

2nd Gourock Brownies Owl Man -- The 2nd Gourock Brownies were given a special treat at their meeting when Davie from "Owl Magic" appeared with a selection of his owls. The girls had a great night learning about the owls’ habitat and where they came from in the world. Many questions were answered about the owls' beaks, hearing, feathers and vision. Most of the girls believed that owls can turn their heads 360 degrees and it was explained that the swivelling radius of an owl's head is actually 270 degrees to easily enable them to see behind them without relocating their torso. Davie brought along six of the more than 30 owls he wons which the Brownies took great pleasure in handling and were given a photograph holding their favourite. Cuddles the Barn Owl proved to be very popular with the girls as was Titch the very rare Pygmy owl.
Campfire Leaders' Club and sausage sizzle takes place at South Newton, 7.30 to 9.30pm, Thursday 7 June 2012. Would you like to refresh your song repertoire? Expand on the songs you already know? If the answer is YES then there are two enthusiastic Guiders waiting to teach you old and new songs. Songs will be suitable for all sections. Come along and join in with all the fun.
