Boys' Brigade Notes
Situation Vacant! -- The position of Battalion Secretary becomes vacant in May 2012 when our current secretary steps down. The Battalion are on the lookout for a new secretary and would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be interested in learning more about the post. Previous involvement with the Brigade is not necessary. If you are naturally organised, have a gift for administration and enjoy engaging and interacting with people of all ages, then this may just be the community involvement opportunity you are looking for. If there is anyone out there who would be interested in a rewarding voluntary position with the Brigade in Inverclyde Battalion, President Alan Aitken (tel 630368) would love to hear from you.
1st Lochwinnoch Camp -- 1st Lochwinnoch Company Section had a weekend camp at Muirshiel Country Park recently. Thirteen boys and four staff members departed Muirshiel Country Park Centre on Saturday 24 September, which turned out a beautiful day, and walked around six miles to the old disused mines and then into the Muirshiel hills. The purpose of the weekend was to expand the knowledge of map and compass work, navigation and campcraft skills gained during last session. Some of the older boys in the company are hoping to start working on their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, so the experience of the weekend will be helpful when they get to the stage of doing their expedition for this award. The group camped overnight and included the customary camp fire with marshmallows, sausages and chocolate bananas amongst other things. After cooking their fry-up breakfast on Sunday morning, the group headed to the north west of the Muirshiel Centre taking in the higher points, completing about four miles in conditions deteriorating to torrential rain. A very wet and tired group had then to pack up camp and head home none the worse for their weekend away. All those attending will be awarded the Boys' Brigade 125 years of camping badge which was introduced this year to celebrate 125th anniversary of the 1st Glasgow's first ever BB Camp at Tighnabruaich.
