Inverclyde Now Logo VITAL Link Between Teachers And Pupils Set Up At Co-op Shops

THREE collection points are now live at shops in Gourock and Greenock so local primary schools can get important supplies to children during lockdown.

They are at the Co-op Food Stores on Shore Street and Cardwell Road in Gourock and on Eldon Street in Greenock.

The collection point facilities are being co-ordinated by Callum Renfrew, pictured, who supports community initiatives locally as part of his role for the Co-op.

There are currently jotters, pens and activity sheets available for collection to children 11 and under, although local organisations, customers and members are also encouraged to donate any other useful supplies.

Callum said: “My mum is a retired headteacher and many of her friends working nearby have said that their students are struggling to lay their hands on the basics, as they learn at home.

“I’ve collected up some supplies from Ardgowan Primary School, Gourock Primary School, Moorfoot Primary School and St Ninian’s Primary School for easy access in store. We’re grateful for any other donations that will help support learning while pupils can’t be in classrooms.”

Russell Gill, head of co-operative and local engagement at Co-op, said: “We’re beyond proud of what Callum’s doing in the community. Co-operation is an important part of everything we do, and this is a great example.”
