A MAN who had just received treatment at Inverclyde Royal Hospital allegedly punched a nurse in the face.
Police were called to the accident and emergency department around 6pm yesterday (Monday).
Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “The suspect had been discharged however on attempting to re-enter the department he was stopped by staff including a nurse who was allegedly punched to his face causing injury.
“The suspect was then restrained by security until police arrived.”
A 37-year-old man was charged with serious assault — as the injury is likely to scar — and held in custody for court.
Sergeant Logsdon said: “This was a despicable and disturbing alleged assault on our healthcare workers and behaviour that won’t be tolerated.”
