CAR parks at local beauty spots have re-opened following fears over drivers parking on roads.

Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park initially said the closures would stay in place at Lunderston Bay and Greenock Cut Visitor Centre car parks despite some easing of coronavirus restrictions this week.

The park say this was because of Scottish Government advice which remains that people should stay within their ‘local area’ when they go outside for exercise or other activities.

Five miles is suggested as the limit “to reduce the risk that places such as beaches or popular beauty spots could become crowded and make physical distancing harder to maintain”.

Government guidance states: “For that reason we would not encourage the re-opening of car parks that are currently closed, other than a phased re-opening to support local travel.”

However, the car parks re-opened today (Friday) on safety grounds to avoid inappropriate parking on surrounding roads although authorities are urging people not to travel long distances to them.
